On the occasion of the presentation of the NEW KÖCHEL CATALOGUE which took place on 19 September 2024 in Salzburg, the International Mozarteum Foundation of Salzburg and Mozarteum Hellas organised in the Academy of Athens the Greek premiere of the KV 648, the presentation of the NEW KÖCHEL CATALOGUE and the performance of KV 636 & KV 630.
The new edition of the Köchel Catalogue, compiled from scratch over decades of work by the publishing house Breitkopf & Härtel and the International Mozarteum Foundation, was presented in Mozart’s home town of Salzburg. Mozart’s complete oeuvre has been newly documented and interpreted and, after 60 years, is once again at the cutting edge of research.
For more than 160 years, the Köchel-Verzeichnis has provided precise insight into the musical works of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart. The first edition of this catalog of works was published by Ludwig Ritter von Köchel at Breitkopf & Härtel in 1862 – a milestone in music research and a model for many later catalogs of works. In order to reflect the rapidly growing knowledge of all aspects of Mozart’s oeuvre, several new editions were subsequently published – most recently in 1964, now 60 years ago. The Köchel-Verzeichnis was thus no longer able to meet the demand for a compact and reliable presentation of the knowledge about Mozart.
The event was hosted in the Academy of Athens and was under the auspices of the Austrian Embassy in Athens and with the support of the conservatory Mousikoi Orizontes.
